Tunisia became the first Arab team to exit the 2026 World Cup after suffering their second consecutive defeat against the Japanese national team with a score of 4-0 in the match held this morning, Sunday, in Monterrey, Mexico, as part of the second round of the sixth group in the first round of the FIFA World Cup football finals.
The goals for the Japanese national team came from Daichi Kamada (4), Ayase Ueda (31 and 83), and Junya Ito (69).
In the same group, the Dutch national team defeated their Swedish counterpart 5-1 yesterday, Saturday, in Houston.
Following the second round, the Netherlands leads the standings with 4 points, ahead of Japan in second place on goal difference. Sweden comes in third with a total of 3 points while Tunisia occupies the fourth and last position without any points.
In the third and final round of the first stage scheduled for June 26, the Tunisian team will face the Dutch team in Kansas City at midnight, while the Swedish team will face the Dutch counterpart at the same time in Dallas.
The top two teams will qualify for the round of sixteen along with the eight best teams ranked third among the 12 groups, making Tunisia’s task nearly impossible to remain in the tournament.
