The Ministry of Equipment and Water announced a significant improvement in the country’s water situation. The overall dam filling rate reached 55.2% as of Wednesday, January 28, 2026, a figure that reflects a clear recovery compared to previous years during which Morocco experienced long and consecutive drought periods.
According to official data, the volume of available water resources currently amounts to approximately 9.2 billion cubic meters, marking an increase of nearly 98% compared to the same period last year. This notable rise is mainly due to the good rainfall that most regions of the kingdom have experienced in recent weeks and months, contributing to the replenishment of water basins and raising the dam levels significantly.
This improvement not only alleviates pressure on groundwater resources but also provides a positive boost to the economic sectors most dependent on water, primarily:
- Agriculture, which forms the backbone of the national economy,
- Hydroelectric power generation,
- Providing drinking water to residents in cities and villages.
