Amid Algeria’s Exclusion, Morocco Elects Member to UNESCO Executive Council

Morocco has been elected as a member of the Executive Council of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for the period 2025-2029, securing 146 votes and leading the Arab group.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, Morocco was followed by Jordan with 131 votes and Egypt with 114 votes, while Algeria and Sudan were excluded from this vote.

Morocco’s election reflects the international community’s appreciation for the visionary leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, which promotes pluralism, dialogue between cultures, and sustainable human development.

The statement emphasized that this election strengthens Morocco’s active and constructive role within UNESCO, as well as its ongoing commitment to advancing education, culture, science, and communication, which are fundamental pillars of peace and progress.

In this new role, Morocco will continue its efforts to enhance international cooperation and uphold the global values of tolerance, mutual respect, and solidarity that form the foundation of UNESCO’s mission.
