The Israeli Ministry of Transportation has reported that Jerusalem and Rabat are working to resume direct flights between the two countries following a ceasefire reached last month with Hamas in Gaza.
Israeli Transportation Minister Miri Regev spoke with her Moroccan counterpart, Minister of Transport and Logistics Abdel Samad Guih, and they agreed to collaborate on reinstating flights. According to a spokesperson from the Israeli Ministry of Transportation, flights are expected to resume soon via the national Israeli carrier, El Al.
Flights between the two countries were halted two years ago following a Hamas attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, which ignited conflict in Gaza.
After this date, the Israeli National Security Council advised against non-essential travel to Morocco. However, it is anticipated that this warning will be eased, paving the way for the resumption of flights.
Israel and Morocco have maintained official relations under the Abraham Accords since 2020, which saw four Arab countries sign peace agreements with Israel during the first term of U.S. President Donald Trump.
