Significant Changes: New International Ranking Reveals the Strongest Passports of 2025

The “Henley Passport Index” for 2025 has revealed significant shifts in the global diplomatic power landscape. The ranking shows a notable decline for some traditional powers and a remarkable rise for several Asian countries.

For the first time in nearly two decades, the U.S. passport has fallen out of the top 10 strongest passports in the world, now ranking 12th, tied with Malaysia. This reflects a change in the balance of power in international mobility, a field historically dominated by Western nations.

### Asia Dominates the Rankings

According to the French travel and geography magazine GEO, Singapore tops the index, with its passport allowing visa-free entry to 193 countries. South Korea follows, granting access to 190 nations, and Japan ranks third with 189 accessible destinations without a visa. Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Spain, and Switzerland are in fourth place.

The fifth position is held by a group of European countries: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Ireland, and the Netherlands. Greece, Hungary, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, and Sweden share the sixth place.

Australia, the Czech Republic, Malta, and Poland take the seventh spot, while Croatia, Estonia, Slovakia, Slovenia, the UAE, and the UK are in eighth. Canada stands alone in ninth, and Liechtenstein and Latvia round out the top ten.

### UK Decline

The U.S. is not alone in experiencing a decline; the UK has dropped to eighth place from sixth just a few months ago, marking its lowest ranking since it topped the list in 2015.

Conversely, China continues its impressive ascent, climbing from 94th in 2015 to 64th in 2025, having gained visa exemptions for 37 new destinations over the past decade.

India has fallen from 80th to 85th place, with its citizens able to access only 57 countries without a visa, after a temporary improvement to 77th earlier in the year.

### Moroccan Passport Status

The Henley Passport Index has indicated a notable improvement in the global ranking of the Moroccan passport for 2025, now at 69th out of 199 passports, marking progress compared to previous years.

According to the report, Moroccan passport holders can travel to 73 countries worldwide without a prior visa or with visa-on-arrival options. This achievement significantly enhances Morocco’s international standing, providing its citizens with greater travel freedom.

### Strongest Passport in North Africa

The Moroccan passport leads among North African passports, surpassing those of Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt, and Libya in terms of the number of countries accessible visa-free.

These include several destinations in Africa, such as Algeria, Tunisia, Senegal, Gabon, Mali, Niger, Guinea, Cape Verde, Rwanda, and Burkina Faso.

In Latin America and the Caribbean, the passport offers access to Brazil, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Belize. In Asia, it includes Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Lebanon, Hong Kong, and Laos.

Moroccan passport holders can also enter some countries in Oceania, like Micronesia and Samoa, with a visa on arrival.
