July 2: Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Kick Off Their Extended Wedding Festivities

Police officers patrol outside Madison Square Garden on Thursday.

Additional NYPD officers will be stationed around Madison Square Garden for the wedding celebration of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, according to a law enforcement source familiar with the arrangements.

Organizers plan to erect a tent to shield part of West 31st Street near Seventh Avenue, allowing guests to exit vehicles without being seen, as noted by the official.

Approximately 500 vehicles are expected for dropping off wedding guests, according to sources aware of the plans.

The police strategy aims to keep 7th and 8th Avenues adjacent to MSG open for traffic, which means that fans may find themselves relegated to sidewalks with limited visibility of events happening outside the venue, sources say.

The security measures include specialized teams armed with long guns, canine units, emergency services personnel, and additional officers for crowd management. Despite these precautions, the vicinity will not be designated a frozen zone, as was the case during the NBA Finals.

Taylor Swift, one of the world’s most recognized figures, has previously encountered security threats, including several stalking incidents and an alleged plot to attack her concerts in Vienna in 2024.

During a press conference on Wednesday, NYC Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch referenced “an event we are monitoring at Madison Square Garden on Friday night” and confirmed that the NYPD would have a team prepared, though she refrained from giving further details.
