The Moroccan Bar Association announced the organization of a national sit-in in front of the Parliament building starting from Monday, July 6, 2026, at 11 a.m., in a new escalatory step in its battle to defend the independence of the legal profession and the judiciary.
This announcement came in a statement issued today, Wednesday, July 2, 2026, by the association’s office, following an urgent meeting of the organizing delegation. The sit-in is considered the third step in a series of decisions taken by the association, which are:
- Continuing the comprehensive suspension of providing professional services.
- Continuing the suspension of working under the legal aid system.
- Calling for an open sit-in in front of the Parliament, involving members of councils and esteemed lawyers and former lawyers.
- Forming a committee to advocate internationally and nationally for the defense of the legal profession and international and professional institutions.
The statement emphasized that the association firmly rejects any draft laws considered to be “unprecedented legislation,” asserting that its position comes in defense of the independence of the legal profession and the constitutional guarantees that ensure the freedom and independence of lawyers.
