$715,000 in Penalties against Senegal and Suspensions after Chaos at the Africa Cup Final

The Disciplinary Committee of the African Football Confederation (CAF) imposed penalties on the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) and several players and officials due to proven violations of the CAF’s code of conduct, following its involvement in the events of the Africa Cup final.

The Disciplinary Committee decided:

  • To suspend Pape Thiaw, coach of the Senegal national team, for five (5) official CAF matches due to unsportsmanlike conduct, violation of fair play and integrity principles, and damaging the image of football.
  • To impose a fine of 100,000 US dollars on Pape Thiaw.
  • To suspend Iliman Cheikh Bayo Ndiaye, player of the Senegal national team, for two (2) official CAF matches due to unsportsmanlike conduct towards the referee.
  • To suspend Ismaïla Sarr, player of the Senegal national team, for two (2) official CAF matches due to unsportsmanlike conduct towards the referee.
  • To impose a fine of 300,000 US dollars on the Senegalese Federation due to the inappropriate behavior of its fans, which harmed the image of football.
  • To impose an additional fine of 300,000 US dollars on the Senegalese Federation due to the unsportsmanlike behavior of its players and technical staff, in violation of the principles of fair play, loyalty, and integrity.
  • To impose a fine of 15,000 US dollars on the Senegalese Federation due to a disciplinary violation of the national team, where five (5) players received warnings.
