First Royal Court Meeting on the Autonomy Initiative

On Monday, November 10, 2025, a meeting was held at the Royal Palace, chaired by King’s advisors Taïeb Fassi-Fihri, Omar Aziman, and Fouad Ali El Himma, with the leaders of national political parties represented in Parliament, attended by the Minister of Interior and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates.

This meeting was convened at the King’s directive to discuss updating and detailing the autonomy initiative within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty, following the King’s statement in his speech on October 31, in the wake of UN Security Council Resolution 2797.

The Royal Palace stated that “this meeting reflects His Majesty the King’s ongoing commitment to a participatory and consultative approach regarding the country’s major issues. In this context, the King’s advisors informed the political party leaders present of His Majesty’s interest in consulting them on this critical issue that affects all Moroccans, inviting them to present their organizations’ ideas and proposals regarding the update and detailing of the autonomy initiative.”

During the meeting, political party leaders expressed their appreciation for the positive developments concerning the Moroccan Sahara issue and their pride in the Royal decision to involve national political bodies and various institutions in creating a comprehensive, updated, and detailed vision for the autonomy initiative for the Moroccan Sahara within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty. This aims to ensure the return of our brothers in the Tindouf camps, reunifying them with their families and building their future while contributing to local governance within a unified Morocco, as emphasized by the King in his recent speech.

They also reiterated their unwavering support and readiness under the wise leadership of His Majesty, fully backing the continuous initiatives and efforts he makes to defend the legitimate rights of our country, to reinforce Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, culminating in the recent UN Security Council decision, which recognizes the Moroccan autonomy initiative as a realistic and applicable solution, serving as the basis for negotiations to reach a final solution to this regional dispute.

In response to this royal invitation, party leaders confirmed their commitment to submitting memoranda on this matter to His Majesty the King at the earliest opportunity.
