Nigerian national team player Alex Iwobi has posted a video revealing the condition of the hotel allocated by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the Super Eagles’ stay in Morocco, ahead of their African World Cup qualifying match against Gabon.
The video depicts the hotel in poor condition, with dirty walls, ongoing construction, and shared facilities with other guests, raising concerns about the quality of accommodations provided for participating teams.
In the video, Iwobi simply panned the camera from the hotel window without any commentary, yet the images conveyed a clear message about the level of hospitality.
Typically, CAF is responsible for arranging hotels for participating nations, although national federations can file complaints and request alternative accommodations. However, the video highlights shortcomings in organization and presents a potentially damaging image for Morocco as a host of major international tournaments.
This incident raises questions about Morocco’s preparedness to host participating teams in African competitions, particularly with the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN 2025) approaching. It could adversely affect the kingdom’s reputation as a safe and well-equipped sports destination for international events.
This is not the first instance where Nigerian players have expressed dissatisfaction with accommodation conditions. Rashidat Ajibade, captain of the Nigerian women’s national team, previously criticized her stay during the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco this year, indicating a recurring pattern of logistical issues with CAF in Morocco.
The Super Eagles are scheduled to face Gabon on November 13 in the African qualifiers. As of now, there has been no official statement from CAF or the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) addressing the video or clarifying the accommodation situation.
