Authorities in Tangier permitted the “Gen Z” youth to protest without restrictions on the evening of October 1, marking the fifth day of this movement. For the first time since September 27, they organized a rally and march to express their views freely and peacefully.
The protest began around 7 PM at the Bab Al-Makazen, with Morocco’s state television present to cover the event. This coverage confirmed rumors from earlier that day about a decision allowing demonstrations across the country.
Protesters raised slogans emphasizing the need to prioritize health and education sectors over sports and international events, while also calling for an end to corruption. They then marched towards Place des Nations, accompanied by a police presence.
Many young people took this opportunity to voice their opinions, condemning the violence they experienced in recent days and demanding the release of those detained while peacefully protesting for legitimate demands.
The youth expressed their rejection of violence, stating their sole desire is to be heard and to have dialogue, alongside calls for genuine reform and accountability for those responsible for failing to achieve any progress in Morocco.
