A young man lost his life yesterday, Wednesday, February 11, by drowning in the waters of Malabata in the city of Tangier, after he recklessly decided to swim in a turbulent sea mixed with rainwater laden with mud.
The young man “Osama” went to the beach to swim under the watchful eyes of his friends, who instead of preventing him from entering or even urging him to come out quickly and not risk swimming, were giving him advice on how to face the waves.
The young man tried to showcase his swimming skills to no avail, as the turbulent sea, which had turned brown due to the floodwaters spilling from the Magouga River in the Malabata area, made his safe exit impossible.
This incident was documented live by one person, who was filming and talking with his friends. The exciting scene of swimming in cold weather quickly transformed from a heroic act to a disaster, as everyone watched the “reckless” individual lose the ability to confront the sea and drown, ultimately losing his life.
Emergency services later conducted the retrieval of the body.
