The French National Antiterrorism Prosecutor’s Office (PNAT) announced the opening of a preliminary investigation regarding the disappearance of a French citizen in Morocco since April 2024, according to the French news agency “AFP.”
In November, the parents of young “Clément Besneville,” who was 29 years old at the time of his disappearance, were received by judges at the PNAT, which began the investigation on July 28, 2024.
Beginning of the Disappearance
The young man, who also holds Spanish nationality, had settled at the beginning of 2024 in an apartment near the coast in Rabat, where he was preparing to open a pizza restaurant. He was supposed to sign the rental contract on April 15. However, he disappeared before that and stopped giving any signals. His family reported his disappearance to the French authorities on April 25, before the file was referred to the Moroccan authorities.
His father explained in statements to the press that investigations in Morocco revealed that his son’s last appearance was on the night of April 10 around 10:30 PM, when neighbors heard the sound of his apartment door closing. All of his personal belongings were found inside the house, including his identification cards, phone, and computer, in addition to a sum of money and his glasses.
In March 2025, the family’s lawyer filed a complaint with the civil prosecution for kidnapping and unlawful detention with the public prosecutor in the French city of Millau.
International Judicial Cooperation
The investigation on the French side is now in the hands of the PNAT, which submitted a request for international judicial cooperation in October 2024. It stated, “This procedure will allow French prosecutors to review the file held by the police and judiciary in Morocco.”
The family also contacted French President Emmanuel Macron and King Mohammed VI regarding this file, urging the authorities in both countries to make utmost efforts to reveal the fate of their missing son.
