The world is preparing for a rare celestial event on the night of Thursday, December 4, when the last full moon of 2025, the “supermoon,” will appear. This is considered an exceptional astronomical event, one of the strongest and most beautiful lunar displays.
The supermoon is defined as a full moon coinciding with the moon’s proximity to Earth (perigee). It will be about 357,218 kilometers away from Earth, appearing larger and brighter than usual.
In addition to its size and brightness, this full moon will be the highest full moon in the sky during the year in the Northern Hemisphere. As the winter solstice approaches, the sun reaches its lowest point in the sky, causing the moon opposite it to rise higher.
According to astronomical calendars, the full moon can be observed in Morocco on December 4, 2025, at 23:14 UTC.
Since the full moon often occurs during the day in some regions, the best time to observe it, particularly in terms of size and appearance, is at its rise above the eastern horizon on that evening or the following night.
The phenomenon known as “moon illusion” makes the moon appear large when it is near the horizon. Its color may lean towards orange or gold.
