Isolated Tangier city district head Mohamed Cherkaoui stated that Morocco operates at two different speeds, indirectly criticizing the authorities regarding their handling of the “Padel Court License” and the accusations against Tangier mayorounir El Limouri.
Cherkaoui posted on his personal Facebook account, remarking, “If someone robs a bank in the middle of the bank, and they have a legal document, they will retract that document and pin the blame on me, sending me to prison while they walk free. And now you’re telling me that a padel license was issued. Indeed, Morocco has two speeds; God, homeland, king.”
Cherkaoui implied that even if the mayor were caught red-handed during a bank robbery, the blame would still be directed toward him, referencing the padel license issue.
Affected individuals claim that El Limouri issued a construction certificate despite opposition from residents and endorsed a change in the land use plan for a plot in the Boubana area, prior to a final court ruling on the matter. The mayor has responded to these allegations, denying all charges and emphasizing that licenses are issued through an official portal and within a framework of transparency.
For some time, Cherkaoui has considered himself a “victim of his stances,” asserting his innocence regarding the accusations that led to his isolation. During his trial, he declared that the “delegation of signature” used against him in several cases is an “administrative norm” that was approved by the mayor and the council.
