Workers of Mdiq Prepare to Launch New Development Programs to Support Employment and Enhance Services

On Wednesday, November 5, the city of Mdiq hosted a consultative meeting regarding the development of a new generation of integrated territorial development programs in the Mdiq-Fnideq Province.

This meeting aligns with the royal directives outlined in the 2025 Throne Day speech and the opening speech for the fall parliamentary session, in which the King called for a qualitative leap in the enhancement of territorial areas, addressing social and spatial disparities, and transitioning from traditional development approaches to an integrated model.

In his address, Yassine Jari, the provincial governor of Mdiq-Fnideq, stated that this meeting is in execution of royal directives and those from the recent ministerial meeting regarding the preparation of a new generation of integrated territorial development programs. He outlined four priority areas: enhancing employment, essential social services, sustainable management of water resources, and integrated territorial rehabilitation.

Jari urged all local and regional stakeholders, within a participatory approach, to submit proposals to help shape this new generation of integrated development programs, taking into account the developmental specificities of the province and valuing its territorial resources. He emphasized the importance of listening to the expectations and suggestions of the community to strengthen the advanced regionalization framework.

He also highlighted the need for dialogue with citizens to accurately assess local needs and expectations in education, health, and employment support. He stressed the importance of the program’s three dimensions based on valuing local territorial assets, creating local wealth, and generating job opportunities while establishing an effective and achievable integrated development program aligned with governance principles, evaluation, and monitoring.

During the meeting, a presentation was made by the Social Action Department of Mdiq-Fnideq Province on “Stages of Preparing the Regional Integrated Territorial Development Program.” The Tangier Urban Agency also presented on “Urban Planning in Mdiq-Fnideq Province.”

In this context, Younes Benhadi, head of the Social Action Department, emphasized that this expanded consultative meeting with local stakeholders will produce project proposals with a direct impact on the population. He noted that discussions would focus on employment support, strengthening essential social services, water resource sustainability, and territorial rehabilitation.

Nesrine Alami, director of the Tangier Urban Agency, indicated that components of the Ministry of National Land Planning, Urbanism, Housing, and City Policy are engaged in these consultations, aimed at enhancing the territorial, natural, and economic potential of Mdiq-Fnideq Province. She explained that the agency strives to cover the entire province with urban planning documents to support local development efforts.
