Release of a Commemorative Silver Coin for the 50th Anniversary of the Green March

The Bank of Morocco has announced the issuance of a commemorative silver coin worth 250 dirhams, marking the 50th anniversary of the Green March.

The bank indicated that the obverse of the coin features an image of King Mohammed VI along with the inscriptions “محمد السادس” (Mohammed VI) and “المملكة المغربية” (Kingdom of Morocco) in Arabic. It also includes the Tifinagh script “ⵜⴰⴳⵍⴷⵉⵜ ⵏ ⵍⵎⵖⵔⵉⴱ” and the year of issuance: “1447 – 2025.”

The reverse of the coin depicts a stylized map of Morocco surrounded by a representation of the globe. It features the national emblem and the number “50” in prominent relief, signifying this anniversary, along with the nominal value indicated in both numbers “250” and Arabic letters “مائتان و خمسون در هما” (Two hundred fifty dirhams).

The upper part of the commemorative coin’s reverse includes the phrase “الذكرى الخمسون للمسيرة الخضراء” (The 50th Anniversary of the Green March), with its French translation below: “50ème ANNIVERSAIRE DE LA MARCHE VERTE.”

This coin is composed of a mixture of 925 silver and 75 copper, weighing 28.28 grams and measuring 38.61 millimeters in diameter, featuring a grooved edge and experimental minting style.
