The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) announced today the organization of two international friendly matches to take place at the Grand Stadium of Tangier, as part of the preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations 2025, which will be hosted in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
The Moroccan national team, led by coach Walid Regragui, will face Mozambique in the first match on Friday, November 14, 2025, followed by a second match against Uganda on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.
Both matches are set to kick off at 8:00 PM and will be broadcast live on national sports channels, providing fans the opportunity to experience the competitive atmosphere ahead of the continental championship and the reopening of the Grand Stadium of Tangier in its new guise.
This announcement comes after a dedicated period in the preparation program, during which the federation sought to arrange a friendly match with South American powerhouse Argentina, the 2022 World Cup champion. However, negotiations ended unsuccessfully due to the busy schedule and international commitments of the Albiceleste.
An informed source within the federation revealed that “discussions with the Argentine side lasted for weeks, but logistical and financial circumstances hindered the deal, prompting us to focus on African opponents that offer a balanced challenge suitable for the nature of the tournament.”
Despite this, the choice of Mozambique and Uganda is considered a strategic and well-considered move. The Moroccan national team has a successful history against African opponents, having secured notable victories in previous encounters. Mozambique, currently ranked 114th in the world, offers an ideal opportunity to test physical fitness and attacking coordination, while Uganda, led by star forward Ibrahim Issa, presents a more challenging rival that mirrors the style of competitors in the Africa Cup, focusing on tight defense and quick transitions.
