Switzerland Eliminates Algeria from the 2026 World Cup

The adventure of the Algerian national team in the 2026 World Cup ended in the Round of 32, after a harsh defeat against Switzerland with a score of two goals to none, in a match held at BC Place in Vancouver.

Brell Embolo scored the first goal for Switzerland in the 10th minute, taking advantage of an assist from Johan Manzambi during a quick counterattack. Immediately at the start of the second half (the 46th minute), Dan Ndoye added the second goal with a powerful shot from inside the box, confirming the superiority of the Swiss team and ending the hopes of the “Greens” in reaching the Round of 16.

Performance of the Teams

Switzerland dominated the proceedings of the match from the beginning, benefiting from a solid defensive organization and quick attacking transitions. As for Algeria, its players struggled to build attacks, despite attempts by some stars like Riyad Mahrez and others to come back into the match.

The Algerian team was unable to threaten Yann Sommer’s goal effectively, while the Swiss capitalized on defensive errors to secure the match early.

The encounter ended without the “Desert Warriors” managing to score a single goal, despite the great ambitions that accompanied their qualification to this stage as one of the best third-placed teams in the groups.

This elimination is a significant disappointment for Algerians who hoped to replicate or surpass the achievement of 2014, especially under the leadership of coach Vladimir Petković, who previously coached Switzerland.
