The security forces and local authorities in the city of Tangier intervened this evening, Saturday, to disperse a protest organized by the “Moroccan Front to Support Palestine and Oppose Normalization” in front of the Tangier Marina, following a prohibition order issued by the authorities banning any demonstration or gathering in the public street by this front.
The text of the decision issued by the local authorities stated: “It is strictly forbidden to organize a demonstration in the public street on Saturday, 2026/06/20, by what is termed the Moroccan Front to Support Palestine and Oppose Normalization in Tangier.”
The authorities warned that any violation of this ban “will subject those responsible for the demonstration or gathering to punitive sanctions.”
The front had called for the demonstration to begin at seven o’clock in the evening, accusing the organizers of the “Optimist” Championship of allowing the participation of athletes from the State of Israel. The bodies supervising the organization of the championship categorically denied these accusations, affirming that there is no Israeli participation.
When the activists attempted to start the protest in front of the marina, the security forces and local authorities were keen to enforce the ban strictly, confirming that the gathering was unauthorized. This intervention resulted in a state of tension and friction between the two parties, with heated discussions and verbal confrontations recorded, along with the detention of some individuals, before the movement was successfully dispersed.
