The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs announced that Wednesday, June 17, is the first of Muharram in Morocco.
The ministry stated, in a communiqué, that it observed the crescent of the month of Muharram for the year 1448 AH on the evening of Monday, 29 Dhu al-Hijjah 1447 AH, corresponding to June 15, 2026 CE, and confirmed that it was not sighted.
Below is the text of the communiqué:
“The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs informs the citizens that it observed the crescent of the month of Muharram for the year 1448 AH on the evening of Monday, 29 Dhu al-Hijjah 1447 AH, corresponding to June 15, 2026 CE.
It contacted all the Islamic affairs representatives in the kingdom and the units of the Royal Armed Forces involved in crescent sighting, and they all confirmed that it was not sighted.
Accordingly, the month of Dhu al-Hijjah will have completed thirty days, and the first day of the month of Muharram will be Wednesday, June 17, 2026 CE.”
