Tunisian Football Federation officials held an emergency meeting on Monday, June 15, immediately following the heavy defeat of the Tunisian national team against its Swedish counterpart, with a score of 5 goals to 1 in its opening match of the 2026 World Cup.
After evaluating the technical performance of the Tunisian national team, which was deemed disappointing in its first appearance in the tournament, the federation is heading towards a decision to dismiss coach Sabri Lamouchi, according to matching reports from international media.
Reports indicate that the shaky defensive performance, along with significant public anger in Tunisia, accelerated the decision to terminate the coach’s duties, pending the final official announcement from the Tunisian Football Federation.
Media sources also reported that the federation is considering appointing a temporary technical staff member from within the coaching staff until the identity of the new coach, who will lead the team in the remaining matches of the first round, is determined.
No official statement has been issued so far by the Tunisian Football Federation confirming the decision to dismiss the coach.
