The Court of Appeal in Tangier issued a sentence of 8 years in prison for the singer Shaima Al-Shawunia’s maid, after she was convicted of “participation in aggravated theft and corruption.”
This concerns the case of the singer’s gold being stolen from her home. The main accused, “Mohamed Reda,” who planned the operation, is still at large until now.
According to the defense of the 19-year-old maid, she is merely a victim of the fugitive accused, who deceived her and promised to marry her.
In addition to the maid, the court convicted someone of “hiding something obtained from a felony knowingly,” and ordered them to pay compensation amounting to 120,000 dirhams to the singer, after she requested a compensation estimated at 70 million.
The Face of the Thief
Shaima Al-Shawunia had revealed the face of a person she said was responsible for the theft of her gold in collusion with the maid.
The singer presented surveillance camera footage showing a person inside the residence she is staying in, calling on everyone to help her identify him, and assist the police in detaining him after he disappeared from sight.
The singer clarified that the person appearing in the video is the one behind the seizure of the gold, in an operation believed to have taken place in agreement and cooperation with the maid.
The singer had reported that her apartment was broken into in the Al-Awamah area, which led to the seizure of jewelry and gold, said to be valued at 50 million centimes.
The maid, who was the first to report the theft, quickly turned into the “main suspect,” after data revealed her involvement with the thief.
