Meta’s services experienced a widespread outage today, Friday, causing frustration for millions of users around the world.
According to immediate reports on X platform (formerly Twitter) and downtime monitoring sites like Downdetector, access to Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Threads, and Messenger apps was unavailable for hours.
Complaints began to flood in heavily since this morning, with users reporting error messages such as “Something went wrong” or automatically being logged out of their accounts without the ability to log back in.
Images of screens displaying the malfunction spread across WhatsApp groups and Facebook pages, while many turned to the X platform to confirm that the issue was widespread and not localized.
Causes of the Outage and Its Impact
Meta has not yet issued a detailed official statement, but experts suggest that the cause may be a technical issue with the main servers or an error in the login process. This outage follows a series of previous disruptions that the company has experienced over the past years.
