Abdelatif Hammouchi, the Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, received today, Thursday, June 11, at his office in the new headquarters of the General Directorate of National Security in Rabat, Mr. Alexander Kiddo Lopez Barula, the Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil accredited in Morocco.
The two sides reviewed at the beginning of the meeting the levels and forms of distinguished cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Federative Republic of Brazil in areas of mutual security interest, which include border security, counter-terrorism, and combating transnational crime.
This meeting also provided an opportunity for both parties to assess the levels of bilateral security cooperation through establishing a common strategic vision to enhance cooperation mechanisms in areas such as police training, combating illegal migration networks, and monitoring and combating the movements of terrorist organizations in the Sahel and Sahara region.
This meeting comes in the context of both sides’ commitment to keep pace with the implementation of the memorandum of understanding signed in 2024 by the Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance with the Director General of the Brazilian Federal Police, which aims to frame and develop channels of joint cooperation between Moroccan and Brazilian security services in the field of “combating transnational organized crime, including the prevention and combating of illicit drug trafficking and psychotropic substances, terrorism, human trafficking, illegal arms and ammunition trafficking, explosives and their parts, money laundering and document forgery, and cybercrime…”.
This meeting also highlights the extent of the engagement of the General Directorate of National Security and the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance in activating security partnerships with friendly and sister countries, through a sustainable vision aimed at enhancing actual integration to address emerging criminal and terrorist threats, and strengthening channels for exchanging operational data and specialized training programs in police areas.
