The judicial police services in the cities of Souk El Arbaâ and Nador thwarted, on Wednesday and in the early hours of Thursday, June 10 and 11, two separate operations to combat the illegal trafficking of drugs and psychotropic substances, resulting in the seizure of more than one ton and 870 kilograms of hashish.
The General Directorate of National Security indicated that the first operation, which took place in the rural area of Selwan near Nador, resulted in the interception of a utility vehicle bearing forged license plates, loaded with 40 bundles of hashish, weighing a total of one ton and 280 kilograms. The driver of the vehicle managed to escape to an unknown location, while the vehicle and the drugs were seized.
The second operation was executed in close coordination with the services of the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance, at the entrance to the city of Souk El Arbaâ.
This led to the arrest of a 31-year-old individual caught in possession of and attempting to smuggle 590 kilograms of hashish, which was also in a utility vehicle bearing forged license plates.
The security assessment of the suspect revealed that he was the subject of a national search warrant issued by the judicial police services in Tangier, suspected of involvement in financial crime cases. The suspect was placed under temporary detention pending the judicial investigation being conducted under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, to uncover all circumstances and details of these two cases, and to identify any further potential extensions of these criminal networks and their participants.
