The local authorities in the Tetouan region reported that four people lost their lives, while a fifth person is still missing, due to powerful floods that swept them away on Saturday, February 7, 2026, in the area of Douar Lamawaja, which is part of the territorial municipality of Bni Harshan, in the leadership of Jbel Lahbib.
The incident was recorded on provincial road number 4704, at one of the main tributaries of the Rmelat River, where the strong floods surprised a light vehicle carrying five people before the waters carried them away.
As soon as they were notified of the incident, local and security authorities, along with civil protection services, began search and rescue operations, mobilizing all necessary human resources and logistical means, including diving teams, trained dogs, and a drone, in addition to the contribution of volunteers from the local population.
Search and recovery operations during the night of Saturday resulted in the retrieval of the bodies of two victims (a 14-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy), before two other bodies (a 12-year-old boy and a man in his thirties) were found the following morning, while search operations are ongoing to find the fifth person.
A judicial investigation has been opened under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office to determine the circumstances and details of this tragic incident.
