The national consultation on the early warning system for all has launched in the city of Casablanca, organized by the General Directorate of Meteorology under the Ministry of Equipment and Water, and the Directorate for the Management of Natural Risks under the Ministry of Interior, as part of the United Nations initiative “Early Warning for All.”
This consultation falls within the context of the international ambition led by the World Meteorological Organization and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, aiming to enable all the world’s inhabitants to benefit from effective early warning systems by the year 2027.
Through this consultation, Morocco reaffirms its commitment to enhancing its national multi-hazard early warning system, aiming to improve disaster risk prevention and management with greater efficiency, and to protect lives and property against increasing climate challenges.
This event represents an important strategic phase for defining the overall structure of the national multi-hazard early warning system, clarifying governance and coordination mechanisms among the various relevant institutions, as well as preparing a participatory national roadmap that aligns with the latest international standards in this field.
The discussions will bring together various national stakeholders involved in natural risk prevention and management, to evaluate the components of the current system, identify strengths and challenges, and determine the strategic directions that will enhance its effectiveness. The discussions will focus on assessing the current system and studying the four core pillars of early warning, which are: risk knowledge, monitoring and forecasting, issuance of alerts and communication, and preparedness and response to emergency situations.
