Morocco has issued an orange weather alert for thunderstorms and hail affecting several regions.

Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology has issued an orange-level weather alert warning of strong thunderstorms, hail and gusty winds across several regions on Tuesday, as unstable conditions intensify nationwide.

The alert forecasts heavy thundery showers ranging between 30 and 40 mm, accompanied by hail and strong wind gusts, affecting northern and central provinces including Chefchaouen, Al Hoceima, Taza, Taounate, Meknes, Fez and Khenifra, among others.

The weather disturbance is expected to begin early afternoon and continue into the evening, with authorities warning of localized flooding risks, reduced visibility and hazardous road conditions.

Meteorological services urged residents to exercise caution, particularly near low-lying areas and riverbeds, and to avoid non-essential travel during peak storm hours.

Such alerts are common during Morocco’s spring transition period, when warm surface air interacts with cooler upper-level systems, creating unstable atmospheric conditions that can trigger sudden storms.

Authorities advised the public to follow official updates and comply with safety guidance as conditions may evolve rapidly.
