The Bosnia and Herzegovina national team achieved a historic milestone by qualifying for the Round of 32 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, after defeating Qatar 3-1, while the Gulf team officially exited the tournament.
The match was held at Lumen Field in Seattle, with an audience of around 67,000 spectators. Thanks to this victory, Bosnia secured third place in the group with 4 points, qualifying as one of the best third-placed teams.

The young star Karim Alagbegovic (18 years old) opened the scoring with a wonderful goal from outside the penalty area in the 29th minute, becoming the youngest scorer in the history of the Bosnian national team in the World Cup, and the youngest player to score from outside the box since at least 1966.
Then, Mahmoud Abunada accidentally scored an own goal in the 34th minute, bringing the Bosnian team ahead 2-0. The Qatari team responded with a goal from Hassan Al-Haydos in the 42nd minute, ending the first half with Bosnia leading 2-1.
In the 80th minute, Ermin Pahmić added the third goal for Bosnia, securing a well-deserved victory where the European team controlled the game, taking 14 shots compared to 7 for Qatar, and 5 shots on target.
Historically:
This qualification is Bosnia and Herzegovina’s first to the knockout stages in the history of its World Cup appearances, having exited in the group stage during its only previous participation in 2014. As for Qatar, they exited the tournament in the first round for the second consecutive time, following their hosting experience in 2022.
