Frustration of an Imminent Plan to Execute ‘Individual Jihad’ Operations in Morocco

The Moroccan security services foiled an imminent plan to carry out “lone jihadist” operations, announcing the arrest of two individuals on Friday, May 15.

The judicial police services in Midelt and Douar Douibat in Youssoufia, based on precise information provided by the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance, arrested extremists loyal to the Islamic State, both of whom are 19 years old.

A statement from the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations indicated that preliminary investigations supported by security tracking operations revealed that the suspects pledged allegiance to the alleged leader of the terrorist organization “ISIS,” with a view to carrying out imminent terrorist plans within the framework of what is known as “lone jihad,” targeting the serious disruption of public safety and vital facilities.

For the needs of the investigation, the same source added, the suspects were placed under provisional detention to be handed over to the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations to conduct a judicial investigation under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor’s Office responsible for terrorism cases, in order to uncover all extremist activities attributed to them and to clarify their potential connections with various terrorist organizations.
