In 2030, Morocco, one of the co-hosts for the FIFA World Cup, has officially launched the Grand Stade Hassan II project. This initiative, designed by the internationally renowned architectural firms Populous and Oualalou + Choi, is expected to accommodate approximately 115,000 spectators. It is not only anticipated to serve as a venue for the World Cup finals but also aims to rank among the largest football stadiums in the world.
Located in El Mansouria, near Casablanca, the stadium’s complex will include a training center, indoor sports facilities, aquatic amenities, restaurants, and retail spaces, ensuring it serves the local community beyond just hosting events. A key feature of the design is inspired by Morocco’s traditional Moussem festival tents, transforming the concept of large festive canopies into a permanent architectural expression. The layered roofs will create expansive semi-outdoor public areas, providing shade and managing foot traffic.
This stadium is not just a stage for the World Cup; it will serve as a new landmark showcasing Morocco’s architectural prowess and cultural identity to the world.
