Residents in Tangier convey a message against ‘oppression and tyranny’ to the governor.

The residents of House 2 in the area of Ekzaniya stated that they protested on the morning of Friday, May 15, in front of the provincial headquarters of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, where they sent an urgent message to the governor Younes El Tazi against “oppression and tyranny”.

The residents explained that the protest aims to demand urgent solutions for the ongoing suffering of more than 800 families due to the delay in handing over their apartments.

The residents’ resort to the governor came after the head of the Ekzaniya municipality announced his inability to find a solution to this crisis, which has driven the affected people to protest almost continuously, with no solution in sight.

One billion centimes

The Ekzaniya municipality stated that it is unable to expropriate land despite voting on the road division, and Vice President Ridwan Ghilane said that it would cost an estimated one billion centimes, an amount that the council cannot provide.

Ghilane held the urban agency responsible for failing to resolve the issue of the residents of House 2, due to its refusal to allow a 3-meter paved road for access to the project, in addition to the refusal of landowners to grant their lands and the difficulty of applying “expropriation” currently.
