22-year-old Ouadoud Rabbaj from Zeist has been missing since Sunday. He was on vacation with his parents in the Moroccan city of Tangier and left the residence where the family was staying. Since then, there has been no trace of him. Family members and the Moroccan police have initiated a search.<\/p>\n

His sister, Hamida Rabbaj, shared, “We work in morning, afternoon, and evening shifts. We approach people and ask if they have seen my brother. Most respond with great concern and offer a dua (prayer) on the spot. We feel powerless. Every day we wake up and repeat the same routine, primarily searching with family and acquaintances.”<\/p>\n

The Moroccan police are also involved, actively searching for Ouadoud. The family has visited the police station multiple times a day over the past week to discuss progress. So far, however, there has been no news.<\/p>\n

Health Concerns<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Ouadoud has a physical disability, struggles with mental health issues, and has a dependency. He relies heavily on his parents for care, which raises significant concerns for his family.<\/p>\n

“He needs to take medication daily, but he doesn’t have it with him,” his sister stated. \u201cDue to an accident a few years ago, Ouadoud sustained permanent physical injuries. He limps, and his arm never fully healed after a fracture.”<\/p>\n

A flyer with his photo and family contact details is being spread on social media. “Unfortunately, we receive many calls from people who just laugh and hang up,” Hamida said. “It’s incredibly painful to face such calls in this already difficult situation.”<\/p>\n

Ouadoud was on holiday in Morocco with his parents, touring the northern part of the country, using an apartment in the Charf district of Tangier as their base.<\/p>\n

Currently, the city is busier than usual due to the holiday season. “This makes the search even more challenging. There are so many people in the city, and searching by car can be impossible due to traffic congestion,” Hamida noted.<\/p>\n

Ouadoud often goes out alone for a few hours. He left with his phone but without a charger. Unfortunately, the phone is now turned off, making it impossible for his family to reach him.<\/p>\n

He speaks limited Darija (Moroccan Arabic) but can hold a simple conversation. His sister does not think he left on purpose; instead, she fears he may not recognize his surroundings and has become lost.<\/p>\n

Missing Persons in Morocco<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The search for missing persons in Morocco varies by case, city, or village. In larger cities, police in some areas have access to camera footage and a broader network of officers.<\/p>\n

Whether and how these resources are used in a specific case is usually not disclosed. Family members and bystanders often spread photos and appeals through WhatsApp, Facebook, and local news pages to raise awareness about the search.<\/p>\n

Awaiting News<\/strong><\/h3>\n

For the family, actively participating in the search is essential. Waiting at home for news from the police feels unbearable.<\/p>\n

“It gives us something to do; otherwise, we would be overwhelmed,” Hamida said emotionally. “We mainly hope to hold him in our arms again soon and in good health.”<\/p>\n

“We are aware of this case and are providing consular assistance. We are in contact with the family during this difficult time. Generally, it is the responsibility of local authorities to investigate a disappearance. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs maintains contact with the family and can provide consular assistance depending on the circumstances and any requests for help.”<\/p>\n
