The boarding pass on smartphones, already available for Ryanair passengers departing from various cities, including Marrakech, is now entering a national framework. With Pax Check, Airports of Morocco has officially announced its gradual rollout in airports across the Kingdom, partnering with airlines that meet the required technical and regulatory standards.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Presenting a smartphone instead of a printed boarding pass is set to become the norm in Moroccan airports. Airports of Morocco, formerly known as the National Airports Office (ONDA), officially launched Pax Check on July 23, 2026, allowing travelers to use boarding passes directly from their smartphones.<\/p>\n

After checking in online through their airline\u2019s website or app, passengers receive their boarding pass as a secure QR code. This can then be presented at various checkpoints and automated gates in the airport without needing a printed document. Compliance checks must be completed in advance by the airline, in accordance with national and international regulations.<\/p>\n

A National Official Announcement, But Gradual Rollout<\/h2>\n

This announcement impacts the entire Moroccan airport network. It confirms the possibility of a fully digital journey through the country’s airports, as practices previously varied by city and airline.<\/p>\n

However, this doesn\u2019t mean all travelers can immediately abandon their paper boarding passes. Airports of Morocco clarifies that the implementation will be gradual, focusing on airlines that meet the necessary technical, operational, and regulatory conditions. No list of compatible airlines has been disclosed at this time.<\/p>\n

Therefore, travelers should continue to verify their airline\u2019s guidelines before heading to the airport. When the app still requires passengers to pick up a boarding pass at the counter, this step remains mandatory.<\/p>\n

An Already Familiar Option for Ryanair Passengers in Marrakech<\/h2>\n

In Marrakech, this evolution won\u2019t be entirely new for Ryanair travelers. According to the airline\u2019s official page, passengers departing from Morocco generally register online and then collect a printed boarding pass at the airport counter. However, there is an exception for six cities\u2014Marrakech-M\u00e9nara, F\u00e8s, Agadir, Tanger, Nador, and Oujda\u2014where the Ryanair digital boarding pass can now be used directly.<\/p>\n

The real novelty lies in establishing a national framework that aims to gradually extend this option to other airports and airlines, rather than its introduction in Marrakech. Airports of Morocco also mentions that integration will occur airline by airline, based on their technical, operational, and regulatory prerequisites: it cannot yet be affirmed that all airlines are operational across all airports.<\/p>\n

What Changes for Travelers<\/h2>\n

Once their airline is integrated with Pax Check, passengers will be able to perform more steps directly from their smartphones: check-in, receive their boarding pass, go through security, and present their QR code at the boarding gate.<\/p>\n

This system is expected to reduce the need to visit counters for travelers with no baggage to check, limit document handling, and streamline traffic in terminals, especially during busy periods.<\/p>\n

However, the digital boarding pass does not replace other necessary travel documents. Passports, ID cards, visas, or residence permits must still be presented when required by the destination or the traveler’s circumstances.<\/p>\n

Travelers are also advised to ensure the boarding pass is accessible on their phone before arriving at the airport, to have sufficient battery, and to follow any document verification instructions provided by their airline.<\/p>\n

Do You Still Need to Print Your Boarding Pass?<\/h2>\n

For now, the answer still depends on the airline and the departure airport.<\/p>\n

If the boarding pass clearly appears in the airline’s app and it confirms its usage from the respective airport, the QR code presented on the phone should suffice. However, if there is a note indicating to visit the counter or collect a paper version, the traveler must continue to follow that procedure.<\/p>\n

The official announcement of Pax Check marks an important step towards the gradual phasing out of printed boarding passes in Morocco.
