The government stated in an official statement issued on Friday, July 3, 2026, that the ferry service operated by DFDS (formerly FRS) will end as a direct result of the new arrangements arising from<\/a> the United Kingdom’s agreement with the European Union concerning Gibraltar and Spain.<\/p>\n

It added that Moroccan citizens traveling to Gibraltar via Spain will now need a valid Schengen visa before commencing their journey,<\/strong> eliminating the possibility of direct access by sea.<\/p>\n

The government described the termination of the maritime service as “the end of a significant chapter in the history of Gibraltar’s relations with Morocco.” It expressed gratitude to all those who contributed to the operation and support of this service over the years, highlighting its role in strengthening family, cultural, and economic ties between the Moroccan community in Gibraltar and the Kingdom.<\/p>\n
