The Israeli ambassador to Spain, Dana Erlich, confirmed today, Wednesday, that Israel “is not considering” supporting Morocco’s claims regarding the cities of Ceuta and Melilla, considering this issue “irrelevant” in the current circumstances.<\/p>\n

Erlich stated during a seminar held in Madrid: “It is not something we think about in Israel because it is unimportant at the moment, as the enemy threatens our lives.”<\/p>\n

Her statement denies reports<\/a> published by Israeli media in recent days, indicating that Israel may be willing to diplomatically support Morocco in the issue of the two cities.<\/p>\n

Erlich added that “Spain is an ally of Israel in various international forums, and the threats facing Spain and Israel are similar, so it surprises us that the Spanish government does not see us as an ally.”<\/p>\n

The ambassador described her work in Spain as “difficult,” noting that the Spanish government’s position on conflicts in the Middle East is “worrisome,” and that the relations between the two countries have recently gone through a “full storm.”<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, she expressed her determination to “maintain dialogue,” criticizing the “distorted view” and “biased statements” of the Spanish government that “judge and condemn Israel only,” while “receiving praise from terrorist groups like Hamas.”<\/p>\n

She also warned Dana Erlich of “rising anti-Semitism in Europe,” confirming that she has noticed fear among the Jewish community residing in Spain.<\/p>\n

These statements come amid noticeable tension in Spanish-Israeli relations since the outbreak of the war in Gaza, during which Madrid has taken critical positions against Israel.<\/p>\n
