The National Commission for the Protection of Personal Data (CNDP) in Morocco announced its plan to utilize modern technology to track leaks of personal information on the dark web.
This new smart tool, developed in collaboration with a Moroccan digital security company, will automatically monitor the dark web to quickly identify any published stolen personal data. If any suspicious activity is detected, the commission will contact the companies or institutions responsible for that data to remind them of relevant laws.
Moroccan law (No. 09-08) clearly states that companies must inform the commission in advance about how they handle personal data, such as customer names or account numbers. Failure to comply may result in fines or other actions.
In the future, the commission plans to acquire additional tools to enhance its capabilities, as revealed in an announcement on Friday, November 7.
Why Is This Important to You?
Recently, data theft incidents in Morocco have increased, including those affecting certain government institutions. This raises concerns that personal information may be at risk, potentially leading to fraud or financial loss. With this new initiative, the commission aims to act as a daily guardian monitoring the digital underworld.
For companies, this emphasizes the importance of compliance with regulations to avoid issues. For citizens, it means better protection: in the event of data theft, individuals will be promptly notified and can file complaints through the commission’s hotline or website.
Simple Tips to Protect Yourself
- Change passwords regularly and use strong combinations of letters and numbers.
- Avoid sharing personal information through untrusted links and always verify the official website.
- Use antivirus software on your devices.
- If you suspect any issues, contact the commission immediately through their website.
