King Mohammed VI Inaugurates International University Hospital Mohammed VI in Rabat
On Monday, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, accompanied by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Moulay Hassan, inaugurated the International University Hospital Mohammed VI in Rabat. This facility aims to enhance high-quality healthcare services across the nation, providing advanced training in medical professions.
The International University Hospital Mohammed VI, established by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Science and Health, represents a new era of modern and intelligent healthcare infrastructure, reflecting the King’s vision and dedication.
It also embodies the aspiration to grant all citizens equitable access to next-generation healthcare services, relying on an institution that integrates cutting-edge medical innovations and is supported by a reference academic and research framework.
Moreover, the establishment of this hospital underscores the King’s commitment to training human resources in this vital sector, ensuring they receive high-quality education aligned with scientific and technological advancements in treatment, prevention, and health governance, meeting international standards.
The hospital spans 280,000 square meters and comprises two integrated facilities: the International University Hospital Mohammed VI (190,000 square meters) and the University Mohammed VI for Science and Health (90,000 square meters).
A New-Generation Institution Focused on Patient Care
The International University Hospital Mohammed VI has an initial capacity of 600 beds, expandable to 1,000. It features over 30 centers of excellence in surgical and medical technology fields, offering specialties such as robotic surgery, neurosurgery, interventional cardiology, oncology, radiotherapy, and precision medical imaging.
Additionally, the hospital includes 24 modern operating rooms, 19 of which are located in an integrated surgical facility covering 3,400 square meters. This includes hybrid and robotic operating rooms, as well as 143 beds for critical care, including 30 incubators for neonatal intensive care.
The facility is equipped with advanced technology, such as a positron emission tomography (PET) scanner and MRI, the first of its kind in Morocco and Africa. It is complemented by a PET-CT for precise diagnostics, a 3 Tesla Omega MRI machine, a radiotherapy system, a robotic pharmacy, and a simulation center.
Among its innovative services, the hospital offers an advanced burn treatment unit and a high and low-pressure oxygen therapy service, the only one in Morocco, dedicated to advanced medical treatments and physiological research.
Furthermore, the complex features the first fully automated laboratory platform in Africa, covering all stages of biological testing (pre-analysis, during, and post-analysis) in various fields, including chemistry, immunology, and hematology. It also hosts Morocco’s first digital pathology laboratory, ensuring accurate tracking and high-quality diagnostic results.
With a patient-centric approach, the International University Hospital Mohammed VI provides integrated and personalized treatment pathways, ensuring comfort, safety, and quality. Additionally, it serves as a distinguished educational platform for students of the University Mohammed VI for Science and Health, allowing them exposure to advanced clinical and technological environments.
The University Mohammed VI for Science and Health, an academic hub of excellence, aims to enhance a key strategic pillar in rehabilitating the healthcare system: human capital.
The university features 15 lecture halls with a capacity of up to 4,000 seats, 72 theoretical classrooms, and 217 practical and guidance rooms, accommodating up to 8,000 students. This educational infrastructure includes several faculties and schools: the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Dentistry, the Faculty of Pharmacy, the School of Veterinary Medicine, the Higher School of Health Engineering, and the Faculty of Nursing and Health Professions. Additionally, it is complemented by an international medical simulation center that provides practical training in a professional environment.
In its commitment to sustainability, the International University Hospital Mohammed VI has been awarded a High Environmental Quality (HQE) certification of “Excellent” level. It is equipped with 8,800 square meters of photovoltaic panels, covering over 10% of its energy needs and enabling a 40% reduction in carbon emissions.
