King Mohammed VI Announces Morocco’s Next Step Following the UN Security Council Decision

King Mohammed VI announced that following the Security Council’s decision recognizing autonomy as the only basis for negotiations regarding the Sahara issue, Morocco will update its proposal for submission in detail to the United Nations.

In a speech after the Security Council’s decision on Friday, October 31, the King stated that the matter has entered a decisive phase, as the Council’s resolution outlines the principles and foundations necessary to reach a final political solution to the dispute, within the framework of Morocco’s rightful claims.

In light of this UN decision, the King emphasized that Morocco will refine and detail its autonomy proposal, which will serve as the only basis for negotiations, being the realistic and applicable solution.

The King underlined that Morocco seeks to find a solution without winners or losers, preserving the dignity of all parties involved. He stated, “Morocco does not view these developments as a victory, nor does it exploit them to inflame conflict and disagreements.”

The King called on those residing in Tindouf camps to seize this historic opportunity to reunite with their families, highlighting that autonomy enables them to manage their local affairs, contribute to their country’s development, and build their future within a unified Morocco.

He affirmed his role as the guarantor of citizens’ rights and freedoms, asserting that all Moroccans are equal, with no distinction between those returning from Tindouf camps and their compatriots within the homeland.
