Legally, No Provision Exists to Dismiss the Government After Protests

Justice Minister Abdellatif Wahbi stated that there is no provision in the Moroccan constitution that mandates the government’s resignation in the event of protests against it. He emphasized that if such a constitutional provision existed, they would have adhered to it.

Wahbi remarked that the question of the government’s resignation or tenure is not significant in light of demands for its dissolution amid the “Generation Z” protests. He pointed out that they were elected and have supporters, as well as opponents who desire their departure.

On October 3, Wahbi told Al Arabiya that the priority at the current stage is to address the “issues and concerns” raised by protesters and work on reforms.

Regarding dialogue and understanding with demonstrators, Wahbi noted that the protesters have invoked their constitutional right to freedom of expression and assembly, and therefore, they should adhere to the constitution and engage in dialogue within constitutional frameworks and public spaces.
