Within One Week: 48 Killed and Over 3,000 Injured in Road Wars

During the week from August 11 to 17, 48 people lost their lives, and 3,004 others sustained injuries, with 135 suffering severe injuries, in 2,192 traffic accidents recorded in urban areas.

According to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security, the main causes of these accidents, ranked in order, include driver inattention, failure to respect right-of-way, excessive speed, failure to maintain a safe distance, pedestrian inattention, loss of vehicle control, failure to stop at “Stop” signs, changing direction without signaling, unauthorized lane changes, driving in prohibited directions, failure to stop at red lights, driving under the influence, driving on the left side of the road, and improper overtaking.

Regarding monitoring and penalization in road safety, the same source reported that security services recorded 44,781 violations, compiled 6,084 reports forwarded to the public prosecutor, and collected 38,697 fines, totaling 8,219,275 dirhams.

The statement also noted that the number of vehicles impounded reached 5,018, and 6,084 documents were confiscated, with 341 vehicles undergoing suspension.
