During the match against Scotland, which took place yesterday, Friday, in Boston as part of the second round of Group 3, the Moroccan national team entered the history of the World Cup after making 601 successful passes, according to what was reported by the American channel “Fox News” today, Saturday.
This is a record number for an African team in a World Cup match since 1966, as confirmed by the American channel citing data from the British company “Opta,” which specializes in sports statistics.
Fox News added that Morocco has not lost in its last six matches played in the group stage of the World Cup and has not suffered any defeat in this stage since June 20, 2018, as part of its review of the most notable statistics of the tournament jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19 next.
The same source pointed out that thanks to his goal against Scotland, Ismail Sabiri became the second African player to score in his first two matches in the World Cup, after Egyptian Mohamed Salah.
He also became the first Moroccan player to score in two consecutive matches in the World Cup.
Fox News highlighted that his goal against goalkeeper Angus Gunn, just 71 seconds after the start of the match, is the fastest goal scored by the Moroccan national team in its history in the World Cup.
