After a meeting attended by the minister and the governor… Staff at the university hospital in Tangier: Our gains and rights have been lost.

The university office of the independent nurses’ union at Mohammed VI University Hospital in Tangier announced that they are monitoring the loss of their achievements, expressing their strong dissatisfaction with the regional health administration’s disregard for the demands of nurses and health technicians.

This has been considered a direct exclusion that contradicts the spirit of the royal initiative to reform the health system.

According to the nurses, the proper implementation of this reform requires, first and foremost, motivating the human element, which is the main pillar of the success of any reform, especially since King Mohammed VI places utmost importance on citizens’ health care, which necessitates motivating health professionals as the primary providers of that care.

The union office clarified that they corresponded with representatives of nurses and health technicians on the administrative council to include key points in the agenda of the second session of the council held on Monday, June 8, 2026, at the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy in Tangier, primarily including:

  • The specific basic system for the regional health group.
  • The establishment of incentive compensations.
  • A decision on the fate of the productivity bonus for nurses working in university hospitals.

However, this correspondence was met with complete disregard, and an agenda was imposed that does not reflect the required comprehensiveness of the royal initiative, but rather deepens the wounds of health professionals and denies them their most basic rights, leaving nurses under exhausting work pressures without any prospects for motivation or fairness.

Union Reaction

In response to this exclusion and negligence, the university office of the independent nurses’ union announced its strong commitment to the productivity bonus, fiercely defending all rights and achievements by all legitimate means.

The statement called on the entire nursing public at the national level, especially in university hospitals, to be vigilant and engage in this struggle to defend both the dignity of the nurse and the dignity of the patient together.

Meanwhile… An Official Meeting Highlights Positive Indicators

The Minister of Health and Social Protection, Amin Tehrawi, presided over the second session of the administrative council of the regional health group in the presence of the region’s governor, Younes Tazi, the president of the regional council, Omar Moro, and the director general of the group, Mohammed Al-Akouri.

The session was dedicated to reviewing the performance report of the group for the year 2025, its annual account, its work program, and its budget project for the year 2026, along with partnership agreements and several issues related to the operation of the group.

The report highlighted improvements in several indicators, including a 10.94% increase in medical consultations, a 6.99% increase in full recoveries, approximately a 35% increase in scheduled surgeries, over a 13% increase in emergency surgeries, and a 24.57% increase in laboratory analyses.

The minister confirmed that these indicators reflect the beginning of a gradual transformation in managing health services, stressing the importance of bringing health decisions closer to citizens and enhancing coordination among various levels of care.
