At least two people were killed and more than 20 others injured in a serious multi-vehicle collision on the road connecting the cities of Azemmour and El Jadida on Friday morning.
Local reports indicate that the accident involved a chain collision of more than 17 vehicles, including light cars and heavy trucks. The incident caused panic and chaos among road users, resulting in partial traffic obstruction in the affected area.
Thick fog, which blanketed the region since dawn, contributed to the collision by sharply reducing visibility to less than 50 meters in some spots. This fog, common in coastal areas during the fall, led to a series of successive crashes as drivers failed to control their speed or maintain a safe distance.
Civil protection, gendarmerie, and local authorities rushed to the scene promptly after the accident occurred. They cordoned off the area and directed traffic to prevent further accidents. Ambulance teams quickly evacuated the injured and transported them to Mohammed VI Regional Hospital in El Jadida, with a focus on critical cases.
The official toll of the accident includes two fatalities and 22 injuries, with two individuals in critical condition in intensive care. The injuries consist of fractures and various wounds, primarily affecting drivers of heavy trucks that sustained significant damage due to their size.
