Arrival of 257 New Buses, Including 56 for Tangier

On Monday, at the Port of Casablanca, 257 new buses were received as part of the implementation of the new public urban transport program for the period 2025-2029.

This new batch, benefiting several urban centers, is included in the first phase of the national program aimed at providing all cities in the kingdom with adequate urban transport facilities capable of meeting the quality and quantity expectations of citizens.

The cities involved are Marrakech (49 buses), Agadir (40), Tangier (56), Tetouan (68), and Benslimane (44).

In this context, Abdel Aziz Faris, the General Director of the local development company “Marrakech Mobility,” stated that the receipt of this batch is part of the new model of delegated management contracts launched by the Ministry of Interior in coordination with the delegated authorities, represented by the group of local communities “Marrakech Transport.”

Faris added that the group received 49 buses and will soon receive an additional 97 buses, bringing the total fleet to 207 by the beginning of November.

He mentioned that these buses will contribute to meeting the increasing demand for public transport, as outlined in the study for restructuring the urban transport network.

Faris noted that the received buses will be moved to a logistics platform to equip them with embedded technical systems, which will enable the Ministry of Interior, the delegated authority, and their agents to obtain accurate information regarding the management contract and operational data.

He continued that users of the public transport network will soon be able to access real-time information about the network and bus frequencies, as well as purchase tickets through various means, including websites, automated kiosks, or mobile applications.

The total cost of the new public urban transport program is approximately 11 billion dirhams, benefiting 37 delegated authorities (84 cities and urban centers), and includes the acquisition of around 3,800 buses equipped with smart systems to assist and inform passengers.

This program represents a fundamental step in establishing a new governance model for sustainable mobility in service of the citizens, aligning with the royal directives outlined in the message from His Majesty King Mohammed VI in December 2024 to participants in the second national forum on advanced regionalization, held in Tangier.
