The British company Predator Oil & Gas has announced its intention to sell its 75% stake in a natural gas license in the Jerrassif region. This license is operated in partnership with the National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines, which holds a 25% share of the project.
According to media reports published on Sunday, October 19, this decision follows several unsuccessful drilling campaigns, including well MOU-5, which has yet to confirm the presence of commercially extractable gas quantities.
Despite geological estimates suggesting potential reserves of up to 5.9 trillion cubic feet, actual results remain uncertain, highlighting doubts about the economic viability of the project in the near future.
The failure of previous wells, such as MOU-4 drilled in 2023, further raises concerns about ongoing delays in exploring and developing these vital resources. This situation casts significant doubt on the effectiveness of foreign investments in the Moroccan energy sector.
The decision to sell follows CEO Paul Griffiths’ announcement in March 2025 regarding disappointing initial results from well MOU-5, reflecting the challenges in achieving commercial production targets.
The company plans to extend the exploration license until November 2026 while preparing to sell its stake, which may hinder Morocco’s efforts to boost its natural gas production.
