Prison Administration Investigates Individual Claiming to Expose Torture of Gen Z Protest Detainees

The General Delegation for Prison Administration has denied the allegations made in a video regarding “deaths among inmates at the local prison in Ait Melloul,” “failure to provide medical assistance to injured inmates,” and “torture, sexual assault, and psychological intimidation of minor inmates.” In a statement, it called these claims unfounded.

The delegation confirmed that no deaths have been recorded among detainees involved in the unrest that occurred in various regions of the country recently, neither at the Ait Melloul 1 nor the Ait Melloul 2 prisons.

Regarding injured inmates, the statement mentioned that there are four minor inmates at Ait Melloul 2. Their health condition is stable, and they receive continuous medical care from the facility’s medical team.

As for detention conditions, the delegation stated that “minor inmates are housed in special rooms that meet necessary health standards.” It described the claims of “torture, sexual assault, and psychological intimidation” as false, noting that minor detainees are treated as a vulnerable group within the prison system, thus requiring care that respects their specific needs.

The General Delegation for Prison Administration announced that “due to the gravity of the accusations in the video filmed by an individual with a criminal background, it has decided to file a complaint against this person with the public prosecutor.”
