On Tuesday, September 23, the National Defense Administration and the Ministry of Defense of India, along with Tata Advanced Systems Limited, announced the inauguration of the “Tata Advanced Systems Morocco” (TASM) factory in Berrechid.
The National Defense Administration stated in a press release that this factory, established under an investment agreement signed by the parties in September 2024, is the result of a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing Morocco’s industrial capacity in the defense sector.
The factory will commence production of the WhAP 8×8 armored combat vehicles for the Royal Armed Forces, as well as for international markets with high growth potential.
This structured project, launched under royal directives, aims to gradually enable the country to achieve self-sufficiency in the industrial and technological domains related to defense, while also acting as a catalyst for developing an innovative industrial system and creating skilled job opportunities.
Upon its opening, the factory intends to integrate 35% of locally sourced components, a percentage expected to gradually reach 50% through significant investment in training and incorporating national suppliers.
The Berrechid factory is expected to support regional economic growth by creating 90 direct jobs and 250 indirect jobs. Furthermore, a plan to enhance capacities anticipates a significant increase in production in the medium term.
The factory will provide Moroccan talents with training and professional development opportunities, focusing on developing technological expertise related to the production and maintenance of advanced defense vehicles.
Equipped with modern infrastructure, the factory will serve as a regional platform for exporting WhAP 8×8 vehicles, particularly to Africa.
This partnership aligns perfectly with the royal vision to promote a national defense industry capable of addressing sovereignty, self-sufficiency, and security challenges within the framework of enhanced South-South cooperation.
