The High Commission for Planning reported that the consumer price index rose by 0.3% in August 2025 compared to the same month last year.
The increase was attributed to a 0.2% rise in food prices and a 0.3% increase in non-food prices. The changes in non-food items ranged from a 2.4% decrease in “transportation” to a 2.9% increase in “restaurants and hotels.”
In August 2025, the consumer price index also saw a 0.5% rise compared to the previous month, driven by a 1.1% increase in the index for food items and a 0.1% increase for non-food items.
### Key Increases
Notable increases in food prices recorded between July and August 2025 included a 3.4% rise in “vegetables,” a 2.8% rise in “fruits,” and a 2% increase in “fish and seafood.” Additionally, “meat” prices rose by 1.9%, while “coffee, tea, and cocoa” increased by 0.5%, and “milk, cheese, and eggs” rose by 0.4%.
Conversely, prices for “oils and fats” decreased by 0.6%, and “mineral water, soft drinks, and fruit and vegetable juices” fell by 0.4%. Among non-food items, the notable increase was in “fuels,” which rose by 0.4%.
The highest increases in the consumer price index were recorded in Al-Hoceima at 2.2%, followed by Beni Mellal at 1.4%, Settat at 1.2%, and Tangier and Safi at 1.1%. Other cities, including Kenitra, Agadir, Fez, Tetouan, Meknes, Laayoune, and Guelmim, recorded increases of 0.7%, while Errachidia saw a 0.6% increase and Marrakech a 0.5% increase. A decrease of 0.3% was noted in Dakhla.
Thus, the core inflation index, which excludes items with regulated prices and those with high volatility, remained stable in August 2025 compared to July 2025, and increased by 0.7% compared to August 2024.
